Understanding dementia
In this course we explore the following aspects of dementia, often using the reflections of individuals who have dementia on how best to understand and support them:
- What we mean by dementia
- The different forms of dementia
- Conditions that sometimes be mistaken for dementia
- The emotional impact of dementia
- How dementia can affect communication
- How dementia can affect behaviour
- Developing supportive and meaningful environments for people who have dementia
This course supports standard 9 of the Care Certificate as well as the Health and Social Care and Dementia Certificate unit on Dementia Awareness
We can also offer further specialised training covering the following more specialised aspects of dementia care and support.
- Understanding person centred dementia care
- Understanding “challenging” behaviour in the context of dementia
- Applying a person-centred approach to dementia care
